Okinawa Zoo - July 4, 2011

The local Zoo here is only a ten minute drive from our house, but the buildings here are so packed and crammed in together--you'd never know!  We went on a REALLY hot and humid day, so we traveled through a lot quicker than I'd like to.  However, since it's so close I'll be going back in the "winter" when the temps are in the 60-70 range!  The funniest part of the zoo is the entrance/exit sign, and all of the hand-drawn signs warning you of all the dangers.  I'll post the funny signs in another entry--there are so many funny signs here that I've had to collect them.  I'll let ya know when I post the "funny sign" entry!  For now, enjoy the zoo!

You can actually see these fruit bats all over the place at dusk.  They are HUGE!
Look!  We found King Julian from Madagascar!
I'd rather hold it, thank you very much.

This elephant did tricks for us!  I'll post a video of it soon.

Okinawa World - July 2011

I am WAY behind in my blog post updates!!!  I hope to get ya'all updated soon.
We visited Okinawa World in late July.  This place is set up to show you a sampling of all the wonderful areas and cultural items you can enjoy in Okinawa.  For example, they had red-tiled streets resembling Shuri Castle Town, Gyokusendo Cave (carved over 300,000 years), museums showcasing history, culture, and daily life, tropical orchards, a brewery, Ryukyuan Glass, Eisa Dancing, a Habu museum with a live snake show, and many other things to see.  This will be a place we'll visit often!  Enjoy the pics--we sure enjoyed taking them!

Mom, I thought you'd enjoy these dragons made from flower pots!!!
Not quite sure what to think about this dude...kinda weird.
But his performance was awesome!
Yes, they actually have an alcoholic drink that has a Habu snake in it. Ewwww!
Lys felt bad for the snake.

This is our favorite pic!  I know we are all smiling, but it really was kinda creepy.  I had to wash my  hands AND neck when we were done!
Fun, but gross!!!

These little fishies eat the dead skin off of your feet and legs.  It tickled!!  Weird at first, but afterwards our skin was so soft and smooth--it was worth it!

SPAM is everywhere over here--they love it with almost anything!
